Wow, tax time already. Who's their accountant's best friend?

Tax time is usually a time when businesses look at purchasing new equipment. Typically computer equipment. Why is that so?

Well, if you currently use a computer in your business it's probably a couple of years old. It's starting to slow down. It might not meet the system requirements for upgrading to newer versions of software you may need to do business. A slow computer wastes time, and productivity goes with it. Linux is open source. It's free! As in money, as in freedom. You are free to copy it. You are free to give it to your friends.

Linux is faster. Generally its more efficient code allows it to operate faster.

Linux is stable and secure. It runs our websites, email, bank accounts, university computers. Our mobile phones, inflight entertainment systems.

With Linux you can see what your system is doing. The configuration files are in plain text. Not computer code. No more error 07XF00000X.

Linux is developed by a world wide group of people that are all dedicated to providing a fast, secure and better operating system. When you submit a bug report, action is taken almost immediately, and there will be an update for you and everyone else who is using it, fixing the bug.

Linux has a regular update schedule. This means there are known deadlines and time frames so you are sure that it's time to upgrade. Microsoft releases a new version of Windows whenever it feels like it. You're paying for something unpredictable and random.

Linux is based on Unix. The true Internet operating system. Internet security and operation was meant to be in Linux. Windows has had to add Internet Explorer as a feature later on, and offers band-aid solutions since then to "protect" its users.

Linux puts files in the correct place the first time. Eliminating defragging, thus eliminating system slow-down 6 months later.

When a new version of Linux comes out, you don't have to pay $300 for it, and you rarely have to update your PC so it can work with the new version.

Linux eliminates software piracy. There are no serial numbers to worry about, no licensing agreements. In fact, copying Linux is promoted. Spread it around.

Linux comes with all the software you need to email, type documents, create and view presentations and play Mr. Accountant in Spreadsheets. All for FREE.

Linux doesn't support DRM. That means your data is yours to keep and do as you will. You bought it or created it. You should own it.

Linux is secure right from the start. Windows isn't at all. Until you purchase Anti-Virus software. Enable a Firewall. Install some spyware clean up tools, make sure your email is safe to download and scanned for viruses. Is that site safe to look at? Who's this email from? I don't want to open it. It might be a virus. Why live in fear like that? That's crazy.

Linux can read over 100 different file systems, Windows only reads two. Both are its own.

Most hardware works straight away in Linux. Windows computers generally need a driver.

Unlike Windows, Linux doesn't have a registry. So even if you do have to reinstall, your files remain.

Linux is the most well documented operating system in the world. And the people who support Linux are cool and helpful. It's not just a job, in a call centre South of Nepal.

So, rather than put your computer, and these days, your life into an inferior operating system created by a money hungry organisation.
